Creamy Pralines

    Ingredients

    1 cup brown sugar
    1 cup evaporated milk or thin cream
    1/8 tsp. salt
    1 cup sugar
    1/8 tsp. soda
    1/2 stick butter
    2 cups pecans
    2 tsp. vanilla

    Directions

    Combine all ingredients except vanilla.  Cook over
    low heat to soft-ball stage on candy thermometer,
    stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.  Add
    vanilla.
    Cool.
    Beat until thick.  
    Drop by spoonfuls onto waxed paper.
    Leave on paper until firm and cool.
    Makes 20 pieces.
