    Onion Soup

    Ingredients

    1/4 cup butter
    1/4 cup oil
    3 lbs. yellow onions
    1 tsp. garlic salt
    1 tsp. MSG
    1 tsp. Maggi seasoning
    Few drops Tabasco
    1 Tbsp. Dijon mustard
    1/2 cup tomato puree
    1 cup dry red wine
    6 cans beef consomme
    1/4 cup brandy
    Rye bread slices
    Swiss cheese
    Parmesan

    Directions

    Heat butter and oil.  Saute onions that are cut into
    1/4-inch rings, until golden brown.  Add garlic salt,
    MSG, Maggi seasoning, Tabasco, Dijon mustard,
    puree, wine and consomme.  Bring to a boil.  
    Simmer 2 - 3 hours.  Add brandy.  Pour into
    individual bowls and top with small slices of rye
    bread, Swiss cheese to cover and Parmeasan.  
    Bake at 350 for 25 minutes.
