Buttermilk Fudge

    Ingredients

    1 tsp. soda
    1 cup buttermilk
    2 cups sugar
    3 Tbsp. corn syrup
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 cup chopped nuts

    Directions

    Add soda to buttermilk.  Let stand for at least 5
    minutes.  Add sugar and syrup.  Cook to the soft-
    ball stage.  Remove from heat.  Cool until
    lukewarm.  Add vanilla and nuts.  
    Beat until mixture begins to thicken, loses glossy
    appearance and holds shape.
    Pour into buttered pan or dish.
    Cut into squares when firm and cool.
    Makes 1 pound.
