Date Nut Bread

    Ingredients

    1 1/2 cup boiling water
    1 cup chopped dates
    2 Tbsp. margarine
    1 cup sugar
    2 1/2 cup sifted flour
    1 Tbsp. baking soda
    1/4 cup nutmeats (optional)
    1 egg, slightly beaten
    1 Tbsp. vanilla

    Directions

    Put first 4 ingredients together and let stand until
    almost cool.  Mix together flour, baking soda, egg,
    vanilla, and nuts.  Add to first ingredients.  Batter
    will be sticky.  Pour into loaf pan.  You may want to
    divide and put into 2 pans.  Cover with foil.
    Bake at 325 for 1 hour.
