Red Devil's Food Cake
1/2 cup shortening 1 3/4 cup sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 3 eggs, separated 2 1/2 cups cake flour, sifted 1/2 cup cocoa 1 1/2 tsp. soda 1 tsp. salt 1 1/3 cup cold water Directions Cream shortening and 1 cup of the sugar till light. Add vanilla and egg yolks, one at a time. Sift together dry ingredients, add to creamed mixture alternately with cold water. Beat egg whites till soft peaks form; gradually add 3/4 cup sugar. Fold into batter; blend well. Pour into 2 greased 9-inch round pans. Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes. |
