Marshmallow Fudge Brownies

    Ingredients

    1/2 cup shortening
    3/4 cup sugar
    2 eggs, beaten
    3/4 cup sifted flour
    1/4 tsp. baking powder
    2 Tbsp. cocoa
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 cup chopped nuts
    18 marshmallows, halved
    Icing:
    1/2 cup brown sugar
    1/4 cup water
    1 sq. unsweetened chocolate
    3 Tbsp. butter
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 1/2 cup powdered sugar

    Directions

    Cream shortening and sugar.  Add eggs; beat
    well.  Sift dry ingredients together; add to creamed
    mixture.  Mix well. Add vanilla and nuts; place in
    greased 12 x 8-inch pan.  
    Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.  
    Remove from oven; sprinkle marshmallows over
    top.  Return to oven; bake for 3 minutes longer.  
    Spread until top is covered with marshmallows.
    Cool.
    For frosting, combine brown sugar, water and
    chocolate; boil for 3 minutes.  Add butter and
    vanilla; cool.  Stir in powdered sugar.  Spread
    over brownines.
    Cut into squares.
